BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has pledged to name various institutions and establishments across the country after martyrs if the party is voted back into power.
He made this commitment while addressing the nation virtually during a wheelchair distribution event held today.
“I urge people from all walks of life to extend their support to those affected by the recent student-led mass movement,” Tarique said.
The wheelchair distribution programme, organised by “Amra BNP Poribar” at the Jatiya Press Club, provided wheelchairs to 10 individuals who were injured during the protests against Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic regime.
Tarique emphasised the need for societal support, urging citizens to assist the affected according to their capabilities.
“If the BNP forms the next government with public backing, we will honour the martyrs by naming institutions after them,” he added.
During the event, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi reiterated the party’s support for the current interim government.
“This interim government was formed with the backing of BNP and other groups that fought to oust the Sheikh Hasina regime. We continue to support this government,” Rizvi said.
However, he expressed concerns over recent statements made by the Chief Adviser in an international media interview, where the adviser suggested the government would remain in power for four years to implement reforms. Rizvi questioned the need for such an extended period, stressing that politicians have historically led state reforms and should continue to do so.
“There are worries that the government might attempt to extend its rule under the guise of reforms, possibly due to some hidden agenda. The nation deserves to know why four years are deemed necessary for these reforms and the subsequent election,” Rizvi said, adding that the public remains anxious about potential delays in returning to democratic governance.
