Chelsea to give Thomas Tuchel warm welcome back to Stamford Bridge despite sacking

Despite an acrimonious end to his Blues tenure, the club will make every effort to assist the England manager’s bid to win the World Cup

Thomas Tuchel will be welcomed back to Chelsea as England’s new permanent manager after he starts work on January 1, despite being sacked by the club’s owners and poaching members of the club’s staff.
Chelsea sacked Tuchel on the 100th day in charge of the Clearlake-Capital-Todd Boehly ownership, following an unhappy summer tour of the United States and a series of disagreements.
The decision meant Tuchel was forced to leave the United Kingdom earlier than he would have liked because of post-Brexit visa laws, as he was not put on a period of gardening leave.
That left a sour taste in the mouth of the 51-year-old, who has not returned to Stamford Bridge since his dismissal and poached Anthony Barry, his England assistant in waiting, from Chelsea.
Chelsea demanded £1 million in compensation to allow Barry to join Tuchel at Bayern Munich and the German wants two further members of his old backroom staff to join his England team.
James Melbourne last week resigned from his position as head of performance analysis at Chelsea and is expected to join Tuchel with England, while Henrique Hilario is wanted as a goalkeeping coach.
Chelsea will only let Hilario leave for a full-time role and will not allow him to combine his duties at the club with a part-time England job, insisting everybody’s full focus must be on the Blues.
But none of that has resulted in any ill-will from Chelsea towards Tuchel and England, with the club enjoying what is described as an excellent relationship with Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham.
Tuchel is not expected to attend Premier League games in an England capacity until he officially starts work as permanent manager on January 1, but it has already been made clear that he will be welcomed back to Chelsea and Stamford Bridge.
Having won the Champions League as Chelsea manager, Tuchel can expect a hero’s reception from the Stamford Bridge crowd when he makes his first return to watch England players such as Reece James, Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke.
Despite having American owners, it is understood that Chelsea will make every effort to help Tuchel’s bid to win the 2026 World Cup as England manager and take great pride in their players representing their countries.
That is good news for Palmer and Co, who will hope to feature regularly for Tuchel and will benefit from him becoming a regular visitor to Stamford Bridge as England manager.
Tuchel may also need to work closely with Chelsea over the availability of players for two post-season friendlies the FA have pencilled in to take place in the United States, ahead of the Club World Cup that the Blues will compete in.
